THE BEST SOURCE OF TRAVEL INDUSTRY CONTACTS

27 February 2008

2008 BGTW YearbookThe launch of the new 2008 edition of the British Guild of Travel Writers’ Yearbook, published on Thursday, was celebrated by 350 of the UK’s top travel writers and photographers, industry personnel and national tourist offices at Andaz – formerly the Great Eastern Hotel in Liverpool Street on Wednesday 27 February. The first of a new Hyatt brand – more Andaz hotels are coming soon in New York and Austin, Texas, its USP is casual luxury.

The Yearbook is the UK’s best source of information for the travel media. Packed with ideas for articles, films and programmes, it contains all the details you need to locate the appropriate expert. It details the specialisms and experience of the members of the Guild who are all professional travel writers, broadcasters, photographers, editors and publishers. Between them they work in all sectors of the travel media in the UK and in the major English-speaking countries.

The exclusive contact details of over 2,700 travel related organisations are all listed in the book. These include tour operators, tourist offices (UK and worldwide), transportation, travel associations, accommodation (hotels and resorts) and travel equipment. There are also sections on the UK travel media and travel PR companies.

Advertisers in the Yearbook describe their individual travel programmes for 2008
and the facilities they offer to the media – and they want to be contacted. They
include tourist offices, tour operators, travel PR companies as well as travel associations, accommodation and transport organisations – interesting new
sources for articles and broadcasts. Over 100 companies have highlighted their
contact details with ads, logos and company descriptions of tour operators,
giving a comprehensive, at-a-glance description of what they do.

"Curious male onlookers make photography difficult in Pakistan, but although my own temper rose, people were never aggressive. In Jacobabad, I traced a line in the dust and told three hundred tribesmen to stand behind it. Which they did. Such orders would never be tolerated in another country, but there was always laughter - at my expense - for the sight of the tall, angry woman photographer was more fun than the cinema!"

Christine Osborne, An Insight and guide to Pakistan (Longman).
