I have wide experience of writing on travel for UK nationals, popular magazines, trade publications and travel websites, and have won a awards for my travel writing. I edited French Railways' travel magazine Top Rail for 10 years, and am the author of over 30 guidebooks.
My guidebooks, published by a range of publishers including Penguin, A&C Black, the AA and Thomas Cook, are mainly to French regions, with others on Ireland, Israel, Belgium and the Canary Islands.
My most recently published titles are Thomas Cook Driving Guides to the Loire and Provence (2011), and Footprint Normandy (2010).
I have written many online travel guides for major web publishers, and also have my own travel website at www.focusguides.com.
I am the creator and proprietor of www.travelwriters.co.uk, a membership organisation and web resource for travel writers (currently with 90 members).
Past experience includes ten years as editor of French Railways' popular customer magazine Top Rail (relaunched as Rail Europe Magazine), 1990-1999.
I've lived and worked in Greece, Tunisia, India, USA, and ten years in France. I'm fascinated by cultures in conflict, sense of place, the Mediterranean.
In addition to my travel writing, I write fiction. My novel, The J-Word, published by award-winning independent publisher Snowbooks in January 2009, has been featured at Jewish Book Week and the Hampstead & Highgate Literary Festival.
The J-Word has been highly praised. Novelist Linda Grant, Orange Prize-winner and twice shortlisted for the Booker Prize, described The J-Word as: "A beautiful, thoughtful portrait of the anxieties and paradoxes of modern Jewish life."
I am currently working on another novel, which is close to completion.
