50 Years since Founding of OPEC

At a conference held in Baghdad, starting on 10 September 1960 and ending with a signing ceremony on 14 September 1960, the governments of Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela founded OPEC as a vehicle to coordinate their petroleum policies.

Interesting to reflect that BGTW and OPEC are both 50 years in 2010. Well might we consider which has been the greater force for good in the world.

"The great temples of Bangkok, the ruins of Sukothai and the dreamlike beaches of the south are among the most celebrated tourist attractions of Thailand. But for me, the pleasure is just being there, riding a bus or giving impromptu English lessons to a gang of Thai student monks, or watching a game of taekraw in a sidestreet."

Tim Locke, AA Explorer Guide to Thailand
