Anyone who thinks that the aroma of cinnamon can be found only in the spice markets of South Asia will get something of a pleasant surprise at the traditional Christkindlmaerkte (Advent markets) of Munich in Bavaria, Germany. Traces of that tantalising scent can be found wafting through the crisp winter air, from the wooden stalls currently standing on Marienplatz in the heart of the city.
