Carolyn Lyons - Los Angeles to Italian Painted Eggs Mon 13th Apr 2009 at 4:54 pm
After three months living in Los Angeles and travelling around California (Santa Barbara, San Juan Capistrano, Hearst Castle, Santa Cruz and the Bay Area) Carolyn is back in London briefly before heading to Italy. She can tell readers what’s hot on the West Coast from food (Bazaar at SLS) to hotels (Four Seasons Biltmore, SB) to hip locations (up- and- coming Oakland). Now she’s going to check out her house in Umbria, just down the hill from the Italian museum of Painted Eggs. "The setting is superb, like Rome, Istanbul is built on seven hills, and as with the eternal city, the simultaneity of past and present thrives here. At the confluence of Islam and Christianity, Istanbul groans under the weight of its own history. More impressive than any veneer of twenty-first century excess are the ones far removed. Those ancient layers form the very fabric of this city of over 20 million inhabitants."
