Site Development Credits

Our new BGTW site was developed by Joomla! specialists Chris Brown and John Marsh of Marbrow Ltd in the first half of 2008 using the Joomla! Content Management System (CMS).

In accordance with a decision made by the Guild website team in 2007, Marbrow used the Joomla! Open Source CMS to provide the framework of the new site. The additional functionality we required, which was substantial, was implemented using a number of third-party add-ons (also Open Source) together with a significant amount of custom programming on Marbrow's part. It would have been extremely difficult to have achieved the level of functionality provided by the new site by any other means, and most certainly not at the very modest level of expense incurred. Thanks John and Chris.

The Guild's website development team included Alastair McKenzie (webmaster), Melissa Shales (web editor), Tim Locke and Mary Anne Evans.

"Caramel and raspberry red, it sits by the road surrounded by the detritus of local civilisation: burst tyres, perished fan-belts and empty port-a-gas cylinders...To nomads it is the supermarket of the Sahara. Among items stacked behind its counter are ... boxes of Gunpowder tea, candles, packets of `Tide`… and tins of sardines. Fresh fish arrives daily from Boujdour so that even in this God-forsaken place you can sit down at a broken table for lunch. A lame fish-eating chicken hops about after scraps. No one would eat it, I decided, it was much too horrible."

Christine Osborne, on the Café Lemsid in the Western Sahara from the Independent Travellers Guide Morocco.
