Guild Awards
Each year, the Guild gives out its own awards at a gala dinner on the eve of World Travel Market.
There are two sets of awards. Those for the travel trade are sponsored and judged by the Guild, those recognising the journalistic work of members are sponsored and judged by the trade.
Tourism Awards
- Best Overseas Tourism Project is given for the best new (less than2-yrs old) overseas tourism project which not only has a tourist potential but is of benefit to the local community and environment.
- Best UK Tourism Project is awarded for the best new (less than 2-yrs old) tourism project in the UK, which likewise has tourist potential but also benefits the local community and environment.
- The Globe Award, inaugurated in 2001, is given to a major new (less than 2-yrs old) tourism project worldwide, with projected visitor numbers of over 250,000 per year. Like the other awards, it should combine responsible tourism development with local economic, environmental and community benefits.
- The Lifetime Achievement Award goes to an individual for long-term contributions to the travel industry. This award is judged by the committee from nominations made by Guild members.

Members' Awards
The Guild also awards the work of its own members. The categories are as follows:
Writing
- Best Short Destination feature (under 850 words).
- Best UK feature (over 850 words).
- Best European (non-UK) feature (over 850 words).
- Best Overseas (non-European) feature (over 850 words).
- Best Trade/Business feature.
- Kenneth Westcott Jones Memorial Award for the Best Transport Feature.
- Best Online Travel Writer.
- Best Guidebook Writers Award.
- Best Travel Book (Narrative).
- Saga/BGTW Travel Writer of the Year Award (4-8 pieces of work totalling 4000 - 6000 words). Sponsored by Saga Holidays.
Photography
- BGTW Photographer of the Year.
Broadcast
- Anne Gregg/Ed Lacy Memorial Award for Travel Broadcasting.

We've been beaten black and blue by this storm for 40 hours. We've had virtually nothing to eat or drink, and we're exhausted, each sporting various injuries. Steve has cut his head, Alan has whacked his knee which has now blown up, and I'm bruised in various places.
