Laurence Mitchell is currently cruising between the Mekong Delta, Vietnam and Siem Reap, Cambodia aboard The Jahan, Heritage Line’s splendid new boutique river cruiser. Later on he will be visiting the coffee country of the Bolaven Plateau in southern Laos before travelling to Myanmar where, as well as experiencing a Road to Mandalay cruise that includes Yangon, Mandalay and Bagan, he will also be spending time in Mawlamyine, a Raj-era colonial town with Kipling and Orwell literary associations. Earlier this year #bgtw member Nicky Gardner took a leading role in creating a brand new edition of Thomas Cook's vintage travel guide Europe by Rail: The Definitive Guide for Independent Travellers. Now she has followed through with something on buses. Bus-Pass Britain: 50 of the Nation's Favourite Bus Journeys (from @BradtGuides) is now out. Co-edited by Nicky. Includes several routes from #bgtw members.

USA boats and trains and planes

BGTW member Laurence Mitchell has recently returned from the USA. Having first cruised the Alaskan Inner Passage all the way from Juneau to Seattle by boat, he travelled coast to coast by train using Amtrak's Empire Builder and Capitol Limited services. In New York he walked the High Line, which now has a new section open up to 34th street, and visited the newly opened 9/11 memorial.
