Dolphins for breakfast! LINDA JACKSON
Written by Linda Jackson
Wednesday, 28 October 2009
Breakfast was very, very different to the norm. I didn't expect to find dolphins on the menu at the Crinan Hotel, an intimate 'gourmet' hotel at the north end of the Crinan Canal on Argyll's wild coastline. Oysters, jumbo prawns, lobsters would not have been a surprise... after all, fish is landed daily 50 yards from the hotel's kitchen. But to have 20 dolphins or more, blatantly displayed at breakfast-time, with their tiny calves alongside, was almost too much to bear. I couldn't. I jumped up from the table, ran out of the restaurant, camera in hand. What a thrilling sight... dolphins galore, jumping and playing in the loch just yards from the hotel. Working on Footprint Normandy - deadline end November
Written by Andrew Sanger
Sunday, 25 October 2009
I'm busy writing the Footprint Normandy guide, which will be published in 2010. Currently working on the Calvados chapter. There's more to Calvados than apple brandy. This is the departement with the pretty, cheese-producing Pays d'Auge, the once-chic resort of Deauville, the D-Day Landing Beaches and the city of Caen - built and fortified by William the Conqueror.

"Ake, his powder-blue suit immaculate and his silver quiff jauntily teased to attention, may be Finland's leading tango teacher but even he can only look on witheringly at my evident lack of tango prowess."
