GEOFF MOORE ...RUN TO PAMPLONA
Written by Geoff Moore
Friday, 19 November 2010
Basically a research trip to look at a huge solar electrical generating complex near to Pamplona. This sort of development could well be of use anywhere in the tourist world even here in a less sunny UK. If this turns you on? Please give me a call 07815 100648.

Is Euro Rail travel a real alternative to short haul flights?
Written by Peter Lynch
Thursday, 18 November 2010
In the past few weeks I've been travelling to a number of European cities evaluating the pros & cons of train verses plane - to short haul destinations. With 80% of the total journey time of an average short haul flight spent on the ground there are some interesting comparisons to be made. BELGIUM BUTS IN... Its been an interesting first week or two as a BGTW member - and bulging with Belgian bits! I spent three days in Bruges, plus a humbling visit to Ypres, and the emotion-laden first world war trenches and cemeteries; then returned to London by Eurostar to meet Belgians aplenty at the guild's awards dinner they sponsored. Then, blow me down, next day I was cornered at WTM by two Belgian beauties promoting the country - yes, urging me to go to Brussels or Bruges. How sad I had to say I'd just been but were they pleased! Thanks Belgium... you've been brilliant! BGTW travel writers head for Oman
Written by Alastair McKenzie
Saturday, 13 November 2010
#BGTW Chair @melissashales has 'pulled a rabbit from the hat' by announcing that the Jan 2011 AGM will take guild members to Oman. Just weeks after the British Guild of Travel Writers' well-advanced and ground-breaking plans to hold the AGM (normally attended by 70-90 members) in the Palestinian city of Jericho, had to be called off, Melissa and Representation Plus MD, Alison Rice, secured the invitation from Oman's Ministry of Tourism at last week's World Travel Market.

Germany is Wunderbar - really
Written by Andrew Eames
Monday, 01 November 2010
BGTW member Andrew Eames has just launched his new website, www.germanyiswunderbar.com, featuring, as you might guess, not France, nor Italy, nor even Spain. Full of Teutonic gems, its content goes beyond the usual stereotypes of the fourth most visited country in Europe by UK visitors - although anyone looking for beer, sausages and Lederhosen will not be disappointed! Eames created the site with the help of Barbara Geier, former press office for the German National Tourist Office, so he had his knuckles firmly rapped whenever he was tempted to reach for a well-worn cliche. Have a look for yourself at www.germanyiswunderbar.com, and give us some feedback on This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

"In 1992 I was invited to join the inaugural flight of Richard Branson's Vintage Airways, an airline operating holiday flights from Orlando to Key West using two restored Douglas DC3 aircraft offering 1940's style service, livery, uniforms and experience—one of their signature moments was the excited announcement from the flight deck that they had just heard on the radio, news of the Japanese surrender in the Pacific. I remember the thing that surprised me most—besides Japan tenaciously holding on for another 50 years—was having to walk steeply uphill to my seat."

Alastair McKenzie, 'What's Changed In 60 years of Civil Aviation?', The Director, Oct 07
