Tampere (Finland)
Written by Stuart Forster
Monday, 28 September 2009
Earlier this month I returned from a trip to Tampere in Finland. While there I experienced a traditional crayfish party and an assortment of the excellent regional cuisine (including smoked fish, the speciality mustamakkara, plus reindeer and elk steaks). The pristine countryside and cultural offerings of Tampere made a very positive impression and I also learned to dance the Finnish Tango. If you are holding a dance event or commissioning features, please feel free to make contact: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Tel: +44 7947 587136 www.whyeyephotography.com

TO ICELAND AND BACK TWICE IN A MONTH by Anthea Gerrie on Fri 25th Sep 2009 at 10:40 am
Friday, 25 September 2009
It's been 20 years since I first visited Iceland - and then, as now, I made two trips very close together, one to the capital, the other to the beautiful wild countryside. Knocked out as much as ever by the rural landscape, and astonished by the uber-cool capital Reykjavik has become. Can't wait for the new service which will open up the north and east of the country next year - and spur my fifth visit. Have become an expert on both foodie developments and the Saga trail, great new reasons to write about this stunning destination. Interested? "Mr Safi Ullah was a tall thin man in white beard and white punjabi. He gave me tea and a copy of the headmaster’s report from 1948. As I left I pressed him to accept a 1000 taka note – a little less than £9. “For books,” I insisted. He took it under protest. “For books,” he agreed. I reflected afterwards that I had given him enough to keep a 10-year-old in school for a year."
