WRITING FOR THE INTERNET
AITO Online Travel Writer of the Year
In the last few years I have written a lot for websites, including starting three of my own.
Search Engine Optimization
I was for 4 years the UK/Ireland Feature Writer for the online magazine Suite101 (left), which attracted over 28 million readers a month. In writing online on all kinds of destinations (not only the UK and Ireland) I have learned all about SEO (Search Engine Optimization). As a result of this, many of the pieces I write for websites appear on the first page of Google search results for the chosen Keywords, a fact which has surprised and delighted many PRs, hotels, publishers and other organisations.
Writing for the internet is not as elegant and stylish as writing for print, but it is much more effective in attracting readers via search engines like Google.
I also contribute to www.TheTravelEditor.com, where it's possible to write a little more stylishly and not be a slave to SEO.
The Pacific Coast Highway
Using what we learned in writing for Suite101 and other websites, my wife and I have started our own website devoted to America's wonderful Pacific Coast Highway (right). This drive has been called one of the greatest free attractions in the United States, and our website is now getting over 60,000 page views a month, and rising. Just Google 'Pacific Coast Highway' and you'll find it at or near number 1 in the search results. Here's the website link:

Greece Travel Secrets
As a result of the success of the first website, and the sheer pleasure we get from publishing it ourselves, we started another one devoted to Greece:
Greece Travel Secrets.
And the latest.... Beyond London Travel.
