Just back from the Rioja Wine Festival in Spain where, apart from sampling the delicious Gran Reservas, I had a trip in a balloon over the vineyards, had numerous wine tastings, visited a barrel making factory (I know it sounds boring, but it was fascinating), and spent a most enjoyable half day in the wine museum. Capital of the region is Logrono, a lesser known part of Spain, but with easy transport to Bilbao via boat and 'plane, it makes it ideal for a week-end break. Apart from gourmet restaurants, Logrono is about the best place in Spain for tapas, one street there is reckoned to have about 100 bars serving tapas.
